Recalls are a well-established global practice; from time to time they are announced by almost all manufacturers of not only cars, but also any other industrial products. But since a car is considered a source of increased danger, it is recalls in the automotive industry that attract the most attention and cause the greatest resonance. Check if your car is covered by a recall campaign. Sometimes manufacturers will recall their cars because of substandard parts or workmanship and repair them for free, regardless of the warranty. This is called a recall campaign. More information on 1995 BMW M3 recalls can be found in this database. It may be useful to use online problems resource that shows automotive defect patterns, based on complaint data submitted by vehicle owners. The problems are organized into groups with data published by vehicle, component, and specific issue. See also an updated list of 1995 BMW M3 problems before buying a used car. In most cases, the recall is initiated by the manufacturer. But it also happens that it is forced to do so. The largest and most scandalous recall campaigns were those that were initiated by complaints and lawsuits from consumers through controlling state structures.

Even today, it remains arguably the best performance-car bargain on the planet." -Automobile Magazine, March 15, 2006 As a general rule, Garage Kept Motors does not deal in salvage- or rebuilt-branded title automobiles. But under certain circumstances, we make exceptions. When making our decision, we focus on three considerations. First, as the quote above demonstrates, there are some automobile models so special that, even having been rebuilt, assuming the work was competently performed, they merit attention. Second, we know there are drivers who long to experience certain performance or classic automobiles, but who find the cost intimidating, if not completely out-of-reach. And third, there is a market for performance automobiles to be converted to track or competition vehicles; their titles need not be flawless as the cars won't see much road duty. Recognizing that a rebuilt car can address each of these very specific needs, when such a special car becomes available, we'll consider bringing it to market. This is one of those times. The 1995 BMW M3 E36 was named Automobile of the Year by Automobile magazine, the kind of top-pick honor it would receive many times over across a wide variety of enthusiast magazines. The engine was special: "... what the American powerplant-a 3.0-liter in-line six... lacked in top end, it made up for with turbine smoothness and midrange grunt. With 240 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque running through a close-ratio gearbox, the M3 rips off 0-to-60-mph times in the mid-fives and muscles through the quarter-mile in fourteen seconds." The driving experience was special: "...the M3 behaves like a sports car, leaping forward on the throttle, hunkering down under heavy braking, and taking a confidence-inspiring set during hard cornering." And the car's "feel" was special: "From the moment you sit in the fighter-style cockpit, you know you're in a car designed for hard-core driving." The dark metallic blue over light-gray leather M3 Coupe offered here shows very well with no obvious sign of its rebuild. It features a factory automatic transmission, but converting to a manual 5-speed might appeal to prospective owners. Body is straight, paint is bright and shiny, and the interior is in excellent condition. BMW Motorsport wheels are in good shape. The car's engine compartment is tidy and complete, and the car's undercarriage with its twin exhaust pipes shows well for the 130,000 miles on the odometer. From its Carfax, the vast majority of those miles appear to have been accumulated since the incident that resulted in the branded title. This BMW M3 may well not suit those searching for a pristine example. But for drivers looking to experience all that an "M" car can offer, on the street or on the track, without having to re-mortgage the house, this E36 may just be that car.
